Style Icon – Sophia Loren Style Guide For The Curvy Woman

“Everything you live through helps to make you the person you are now.” — Sophia Loren. She is an inspirational stylish curvy woman whose malnourished body shape once taunted and earned her the nickname “stuzzicadenti” — “toothpick” until she blossomed into a young beautiful woman at age fourteen. It was then that she entered a beauty pageant in Italy, she came second and suddenly she could walk with her head held high on the street. Her body shape once got her an offer of body double for Greta Garbo, an already established international actress at the time but her mother refused to let her out of her site. Her body shape vital statististics was 38C – 24 – 38 making her a full hourglass body shape. She hated beauty salons and she did her hair and nail herself.

In fact, she was born as an illegitimate child to her unwed mother who gave birth to her in Rome on September 20, 1934. She grew up in the slums of Pozzuoli, Naples in the Italian society during the second World War without any support from her father and she lived life in abject poverty with her grandparents home with eight other people. As World War II ravaged her town during one attack, she was knocked down to the ground and split open her chin, leaving a scar that has remained ever since.

She began her film career in 1951 and became one of the worlds most beautiful women. Sofia Loren won the Best Actress Academy Award for the film Two Women in 1961 and an Academy Honorary Award in 1991. She was married to producer Carlo Ponti for 50 years until his death in 2007, Loren lives in Geneva, Switzerland. She is not only all about beauty but she’s got brains too. She won an Oscar in 1960 for her role in Two Women, becoming the first actor to win an Academy Award for a non-English-speaking performance. She owned an apartment in New York City and suffered from stage fright, thereby, never appeared in a theatrical production. She turned down starring roles in the TV series ‘Dynasty’ and ‘Falcon Crest’ to devote more time to raising her family.

Her style signature includes head scarves and large brim hats.

She shares similar body shape with true style icons of the 50’s such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot and her style reflects the cinched in waste, fit and flare silhouettes that enhances their small waists.
